Support Abigail George in becoming a mental health advocate

Donation protected
I am Morten Rand, the editor for Novelty Fiction. I am raising funds to help one of our authors achieve her long-held goal of becoming a mental health advocate. The beneficiary will receive the funds into her South African bank account via WorldRemit, whenever there is enough available to pay for any item(s) in her approved budget.

Background and vision

Abigail George’s life is one of highs and lows, the unavoidable result of a chronic mood disorder. Now in her mid-forties, she has that side of her life well under control, so she can focus on being a productive writer. The back cover of When Bad Mothers Happen, her latest book release (Novelty Fiction 2024), says: “Abigail George, a South African poet and author, resides in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She was awarded first place in the Sol Plaatje European Union Poetry Prize, 2023.”

Abigail is determined to use When Bad Mothers Happen and the prestigious poetry award as a springboard to help others who suffer from depression and abdonment issues. Since early 2025, she has been busy reaching out to mental health specialists and caregivers, and even to some individuals through her extensive social network. People are responding favorably. Apparently, they view this author as being worth listening to, perhaps even a role model.

Stage 1: Working remotely

Being a published author does not always lead to financial success. Abigail has no laptop or PC at her disposal, forcing her to work unhealthily on an old smartphone with a cracked screen. She lacks the funds to communicate her message effectively. EUR 2400 in donations is what she needs to get to the next stage:
-A good laptop, EUR 500
-A new smartphone, EUR 250
-A printer, EUR 100
-Office supplies, EUR 250
-Two professional campaign videos, 2-5 minutes long, EUR 500
-Printing of a newsletter, pamphlet and booklet series, EUR 200
-Distribution of newsletters, pamphlets and booklets, EUR 200
-Transaction fees and miscellaneous expenses, EUR 400
Total: …………………………………........……………………………….EUR 2400

Stage 2: Expanded outreach

Abigail’s mental health advocacy has already begun with local newspaper interviews, email contacts, and communication online. When the funding goal for Stage 1 has been reached, this work will get up to full speed.

In Stage 2, Abigail will seek speaking engagements, institutional and private visitations, and media appearances, so as to spread her key message. As a mental health sufferer and survivor, she knows what she is talking about, and she is on a mission to help others overcome similar problems.
