Support Abolaji’s MBA Dream

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
The quote however correct only holds true for those presented with the privilege, capacity, and opportunity at education. For many years, these words have formed and fueled my desire, thoughts, and actions at attaining an education.

I am Abolaji, an aspiring young Nigerian, entrepreneur, and community service enthusiast. And I have been offered admission into Kogod Business School. Whilst this is great news to my friends, community & I, I am challenged and unable to meet the huge financial obligation that comes with it. I fear I might be another unfortunate case of someone without the privilege and capacity at education.

A year ago, I boarded a plane for the first time in my life to come into the United States; after being selected for the Atlas Corps training and development fellowship. Atlas Corps promotes international development by reversing the traditional Peace Corps model.

In the second month, Kyle Poole invited me to attend the AU Kogod  Case Competition with him. I jumped at the opportunity to attend given my interest in entrepreneurship and startups, and the opportunity to momentarily experience and see what a university in the United States looks like. At the business case competition, I was impressed by the brilliance, and talent displayed by the student presenters, many of whom were from diverse cultural backgrounds like me.

I was greatly moved and inspired to put in an application for admission.  After all, I had always wanted to pursue an MBA degree. On Mar 13, 2020, I received my decision letter and YES! It read, “Congratulations on your admission to the Full-Time MBA at American University’s Kogod School of Business for the Fall 2020 semester! In addition to this admission, you have been awarded a Kogod Scholar tuition scholarship in the amount of $65,000.00.”
Despite the scholarship received, there are still some costs I need to bear to be able to take advantage of the admission offer.
Subtracting my scholarship offer per semester at $32,500, my tuition balance remains $10,988 I will also incur other expenses of room, board, books, and project which is approximately estimated at $34,664 for the first year. The total balance left to be raised is approximately $45,652. Funds raised will go to securing my place in the MBA program.
Without your help, I am afraid I might lose this opportunity. The admission campaign is important to me because it presents me an opportunity to learn & grow professionally and impact the lives of many underserved young men and women in my community who look to me as a sign of hope and meaning of what they can also become in the future with the right education. And by lending your support to my campaign, you propel and empower me to do more and most importantly support the dreams of the young people that are tied to mine.

Please kindly give whatever you can to help. Your compassion and empathy made through your donations will make a big difference. Donations from Nigeria & countries not supported by GofundMe can be made here https://bit.ly/2WWtKBA
