Support Adam's Fight and Family

Adam in his current state, HOLDING ON STRONG! Letting that body rest so his lungs can get stronger.

Adam's sister and Ken have been by his side daily, singing to Adam, joking with Adam and quietly comforting him the best they can.
Andrea has been Adam's true voice and rock. This was at Madonna before he got put back in the ICU the second time.
Adam has the best smile, even through all this. We all can't wait to see it again soon!

Hello. One of my very best friend's sons, Adam has been in the hospital since March, and is currently fighting for his life in the ICU. I asked her if it was ok if I made a GoFundMe for her and her family, because I know she would never ask for help on her own, so with her permission I am setting this up. I asked her to write something addressing his medical condition, because her being in the health field herself, can explain it much better than I. This is what she wrote:

Adam, my 22 year old son, left for treatment February 19th, and returned March 27th. The entire time, he was in and out of Urgent Care and hospitals, presumed to have COVID related pneumonia. Adam went to the ER March 30th, and was discharged April 1st with oxygen saturations dropping in the 80's, yet his discharge instructions were only to follow up with his doctor and to take Mucinex. April 2nd, Adam went back to the ER with shortness of breath and a fever. He was admitted to the ICU on high flow oxygen. It was discovered he was septic and had a fungal infection. He remined in the ICU on a bi-pap and high flow oxygen until he could handle 10L of oxygen, and was then discharged to Madonna, in the LTACH unit, for physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Adam was found with oxygen saturations in the 60's, and sent back to the hospital by ambulance, and was found to be septic again. They thought he had pneumonia again, but he actually had Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Because of that, he remained in the ICU. Adam fought hard to stay off a ventilator, but to put it simply, his body was worn out. I had to make one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make; to intubate him and put him on a ventilator, which is the condition he remains in today. I was told he can only be intubated for approximately 2 weeks before we have to make some even more serious decisions.

Conclusion: Andrea meets every day with Adam's team of doctors, and steadily sits by Adam's side, as his voice and his rock. It is only her, and she has other children that depend on her, and has missed quite a bit of work because of this. I have never seen someone be so strong and step up to the plate to be their child's voice. There have been some really delicate moments with Adam through this, where we weren't sure if Adam's body was going to pull through this. It truly broke my heart to hear that Andrea felt she needed to ask his doctor straight up, "Am I watching my son die".

Andrea's family has been fortunate to have some supportive people try to help in the situation, but with her missing work, and trying to hold everything together, it's been A LOT of weight on just her shoulders. So, I'm asking on her behalf, for any help from anyone willing and able. If you're not in the position to help, IT'S OK, but if you could at least give some words of encouragement and share the post, it would be greatly appreciated! In advance, I know there are some wonderful people out there with good hearts, so I want to thank anyone that helps, in advance. Watching bad things happen to GREAT people, is heartbreaking. This kid is hardheaded to say the least, and we are confident he will pull through, but it's going to be a LONG road. Thank you for your time reading this.
