Battle Against the Blood Cancer

Meet Adi: A Brave 3-Year-Old Battling the Blood Cancer
Adi's infectious laughter and boundless energy have been overshadowed by B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL), a type of blood cancer. On May 11, 2024, Adi was rushed to the hospital after an urgent care doctor read his blood report, revealing very low hemoglobin, almost no platelets, no neutrophils, and high levels of immature white blood cells, all indicative of leukemia (blood cancer). He was immediately taken to Christus Children's Hospital, where the emergency team worked tirelessly to get a blood sample and establish an IV line. After nine hours of trying, doctors finally established a Central Line as all other veins had collapsed. To stabilize Adi, doctors administered multiple rounds of blood and platelet transfusions. Adi was diagnosed with B-ALL on May 13, 2024. He spent a total of 21 days in the hospital: 7 days in the PICU and the next 14 days in the inpatient Pediatric Hematology-Oncology ward due to a bacterial infection. Adi is more susceptible to infections due to the immunocompromised state caused by his chemotherapy treatment. Now, he faces a rigorous chemotherapy regimen spanning over two years, including a critical maintenance phase after that.

The Road Ahead
Adi's treatment regimen is incredibly demanding, requiring constant medical attention to manage his condition effectively. Each step is crucial in his fight against leukemia, from the weekly chemotherapy sessions at hospital to the frequent outpatient visits that monitor his progress and address any complications. The critical maintenance phase will be vital in preventing a relapse (recurrence), requiring ongoing vigilance and care. His journey involves intense weekly IV chemotherapy from a heart-port installed directly in his chest, emergency visits to the hospital due to infections as he is immunocompromised from chemotherapy, and numerous outpatient visits to combat this aggressive disease.
Beyond the physical challenges, the emotional and psychological toll on Adi and his family is immense. They must navigate the fear and uncertainty of a prolonged illness, balancing hope and the daily reality of intensive treatment. Adi's parents, who are his primary caregivers, must also manage their own emotional resilience to support their son’s needs.

Your Support Makes a Difference
The financial strain of Adi's treatment is overwhelming for his family. They face escalating medical bills that include prolonged hospital stays, specialized cancer treatments, continuous follow-up care, and essential medications. In addition, the need for both parents to minimize public exposure and reduce work hours to care for Adi adds to their financial burden. Your donation will directly alleviate these costs, providing essential relief and allowing the family to focus on Adi's recovery.
