Support Afghan Family of 5 on their Journey to Safety
My colleagues and friends Naveed, Mashala, and their three children have been hiding in Kabul since August. After 4 terrifying months, the family has just escaped and arrived at a safe house in Pakistan. They will continue to hide here until asylum is approved by either Canada or the United States.
Naveed was a human rights lawyer advocating for women and children’s rights within Afghanistan. Mashala was a teacher of girls. I met them while teaching in Afghanistan in 2010. In addition to constant death threats, Mashala was also brutally attacked when she had boiling water thrown into her face.
Both Naveed and Mashala have been unable to work for the last 4 months. We are requesting funds to support the family with their basic needs and journey to safety in either Canada or the United States.
This money will support Naveed and Mashala’s family for 4 months (the average time to get asylum) and cover their costs to get to North America. Money will be given directly to Naveed.
Food, rent + basic necessities in Pakistan: $2000/month
Travel to North America: $2000 per person
Visas + miscellaneous costs (immunizations, travel documents, etc…): $1000
Any amount is extremely beneficial and urgently needed. The family is very grateful for the kindness and generosity of all who are helping them to safety.
