Support Afghan Refugee Resettlement in Wisconsin

Approximately 3,000 Afghan refugees are currently at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin . While they await more permanent resettlement elsewhere in the United States, the need for cash and in-kind donations remains high. Many of these refugees arrived in the United States without toiletries, seasonally appropriate clothing or other personal items.

My name is Lauren Davidson, a long term and current resident of Wisconsin with experience in international development and a passion for refugee affairs. I'm asking for your support to raise money for Afghan refugees currently in Wisconsin, through a donation via GoFundMe.

How Will Your Money Be Used?

• 100 Percent of all money collected via GoFundMe will be used to assist in resettlement efforts based in Wisconsin.
• We have selected Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin, an established and effective non profit and official partner of the State Department, to receive any cash donations collected via GoFundMe. These donations will be used by LSS for longterm refugee resettlement programs in the Milwaukee area and immediate relief for refugees currently in Central Wisconsin.
• All money will be donated to Lutheran Social Services via a secure payment portal, located on LSS of Wisconsin's webpage.
• The purpose of our GoFundMe is to reach members of our community without general knowledge of the work LSS does and leverage shareable social media content to increase awareness of fundraising efforts in Manitowoc county.

How Else Can You Support?

• We are currently coordinating a concurrent toiletries drive in Manitowoc County for those with the ability and preference to give physical items. These items will be delivered to Lutheran Social Services in Milwaukee, and distributed to refugees in Milwaukee and Central Wisconsin. All donations can be dropped off on Sundays from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Firth Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Donation times may be expanded if interest increases. Church attendance is not required to donate.
• We are requesting that any donations be of new, unused toiletry items, including (but not limited to) diapers, dental hygiene supplies, soap, deodorant, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, razors, shaving gel, baby wipes, etc.
