Hi my name is Aidan George McIntyre, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in July of 2022. The week I was diagnosed I received 4 blood transfusions, and had a Ostomy bag put on my stomach in an emergency operation to save my life.
I had 2 tumors that in total were 20cm, I was told in America and New Zealand by the medical establishment that the problem was so significant that it would end my life, I wouldn't be able to come out of this alive. I lived with this narrative for 12 months.
After 6 rounds of chemotherapy, 25 rounds of radiation therapy, and 10 operations and/or surgeries I have been able to successfully put my body in remission, and in an absolute miracle I have walked out of this experience without an Ostomy bag!
I am now at the end of a very long and horrific journey. With the help and guidance of my medical teams both here in New Zealand and in America, with my unwavering determination to overcome a death sentence, and with the grace of God I find myself in the very fortunate position that I am able to start my life again.
Through this experience I had to deal with an Ostomy bag on the left then right hand side of my body for 15 months, I have had to wear adult diapers after the reversal of my last stoma, I have lost organs and/or parts of organs. To say this has been an ordeal is a complete understatement, however throughout this wild adventure I have been able to educate those around me about cancer, and in the process have saved lives.
After my last operation, my medical team at Wellington Hospital asked me to help with an interview that would be used to train staff, I was recorded for 2 hours, with the hope this interview will also help them to save more lives. I have separately been asked to give lectures at Wellington University from a cancer survivors perspective, to share my experience with future medical professionals.
I had never heard the word polyp before being diagnosed, no one had ever told me it would be a good idea as I get older to do a colonoscopy, I have fought really hard to not just save my life, but to help everyone to understand more about this deadly disease. I will have a dog in this fight for the rest of my life, I am beyond passionate about this subject!
I haven't been able to work or generate money for 2 years and 6 months, I have had to prioritize my health and wellbeing over everything.
As I now turn my energy and focus towards my new life, it is both exciting and daunting to be starting over. I would be beyond grateful for any and all help you are able to offer, as it will help me dig myself out of this hole that I am in and get back on my feet.
I am not sure how much I will need to create this new life, I had to overcome tumors with a total mass of 20cm, so I have landed on $20,000USD as a starting point, I would be humbled and honored with any support you can give?!?!
