Support Aiden's Accident Recovery and Rehab

Update 8.17.23

1. Health Coverage Update:
We are delighted to share that Aiden is now pending coverage by Medicaid. While we continue to work with financial services here at the hospital, this support should ensure that Aiden can continue to receive most of the medical care and treatments he needs on his path to recovery. While this is a great first step, the challenge that still remains is the timing of getting him into rehabilitation and the level of care he will be able to receive.

2. Daily Physical Therapy:
Aiden engages in daily physical therapy sessions which are playing a vital role in helping him regain strength, mobility, and independence. He has done great with this and is determined to continue working his body to heal.

3. First “Steps” in a Wheelchair:
Aiden achieved a significant milestone on Tuesday, August 15, by finally getting into a wheelchair after having to lay in bed for almost two weeks. He had the opportunity to roll outside for the first time, savoring the fresh air and sunshine. He has been able to get in the chair and move around in it more and more each day.

4. Signs of Improvement:
Perhaps the most heartening news of all is that Aiden is starting to feel some improvement in the sensation in his legs. While the journey ahead remains challenging, this gives us hope and has strengthened Aiden's determination.

Aiden's journey to recovery is far from over, but every step forward is something worth celebrating. As we continue to stand united in our efforts to support Aiden, we invite you to continue to donate and share his story and this update with your friends, family, and networks. We are grateful to all of you. Together, we can help Aiden make a successful recovery.

Update 9.9.23: We have recently uncovered that Aiden is currently without medical insurance. Unfortunately, when he transitioned to full-time employment, he was not adequately informed about changes to his benefits. Regrettably, this oversight caused him to miss the enrollment window without his awareness.

Consequently, Aiden is now facing substantial financial burdens, directly impacting his ability to receive the essential physical therapy sessions he urgently requires. In these trying times, your support would be of immeasurable value. If you're able to contribute, it would make a tremendous difference and be greatly appreciated.

Update 9.7.23: Following Aiden's successful second surgery, he's dealing with significant pain. While there's been no change with feeling or movement in his legs. We're hopeful that his pain might be linked to nerve regeneration and remain positive about his ongoing recovery.

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Hearts,

We come to you in a time of both gratitude and need, seeking your support for our beloved brother, son, grandson, and friend who recently faced a life-altering incident. On August 2, 2023, Aiden (who is only 19 years old) was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. Thankfully, his commitment to safety meant he was wearing all his protective gear, protecting his life. We are incredibly grateful that he survived.

The accident, however, left Aiden with extensive damage to his L3 vertebra and lumbar spinal cord, a crucial part of his lower back. When he arrived at the ER with no feeling in his legs, it was a terrifying moment for our entire family, but we are relieved to share that he has shown signs of progress - albeit gradually. While the prospect of the use of his legs is uncertain, his upper body, brain, and neck very luckily remain unaffected.

Aiden is under the care of an exceptional medical team at the Renown Medical Center Surgical Trauma Extensive Care Unit in Reno. He is fortunate to have skilled doctors, compassionate nurses, and dedicated physical therapists who have been working tirelessly to guide him through this difficult journey. He has already undergone one surgery and has his next procedure scheduled on Monday, where they will insert a cage around the damaged vertebra.
While Aiden is covered by medical insurance (update- he is not covered) , the financial burden of his extensive treatment and life change is substantial. Our fervent wish is for Aiden to focus solely on his recovery and improvement. With that said, we want to do everything we can to support Aiden through financial strain and provide him with the mental and emotional space necessary for healing. This is where your generosity and kindness come in.

We are kindly asking you to please contribute to this GoFundMe campaign. All donations will directly contribute to Aiden's:

• Medical expenses
• Rehabilitation
• Income support during his year-long rehabilitation
• Necessary modifications to his living space
• Modifications to a hands-only operated car
• Other requirements that arise on his journey toward recovery

Your support, whether you are donating or simply sharing this campaign, is invaluable to us. As we move forward, Aiden and his family want you to know that your support means the world to us. Together, we can make profound improvements to Aiden's life and help him find his way back to health, happiness, and a future full of promise.

With love and gratitude,
Tara Neely, sister, and the Hendricks Family
