Dear Family and Friends of Alana’s Café and Sixto’s Cantina,
In September of 1993 we came to the wonderful community of Burlingame to open our first Alana’s Café. Ten years later we opened Alana’s Café in the welcoming town of Redwood City. Our popular Mexican Wednesday Specials at Alana’s gave birth to Sixto’s Cantina over 6 years ago. Throughout these years we have had the great fortune of having many of our staff members since the start of all of our restaurants. Unfortunately, we were not able to keep the restaurants open because of covid-19. Our restaurant concepts are mainly for dine in. Consequently, all of our employees have not been working since March 15th.
We employ 90 people at this time. This means so much more, as there are families supported by each of these employees. Some of these families only have one working adult and most are working in the service industry for 2-3 employers. We have many who work at Alana’s during the day and Sixto’s at night. While they have been working towards filing for unemployment, these payments will barely cover the cost of housing for most of them.
We have made the decision to start a GoFundMe account to help our employees through this unprecedented time.
It is not easy to ask for help especially when everyone feels so uncertain and scared about everything so we thank you for anything you can give. No amount is too small as it is the act that is the gift because we know you care about our employees.
We are grateful for the generosity of the communities we have served over these past 26 years. We value your friendship to the both of us and our employees. We will continue to work hard when this is all over to re-open our restaurants and get back to what we do best – Hospitality!
We wish you all a safe and fruitful time with your families, as we all learn how connected we all really are.
Warmly,
Francesca & Teresa
