Hello, my name is Alasan Ann. I'm a Minnesota native, raised right here in the heartland, attending Fernbrook Elementary, Osseo Middle, and Maple Grove High School before pursuing my education at Saint Mary's University in Winona.
Growing up, I found my passion in taekwondo at the World Taekwondo Academy under the guidance of Grandmaster Lee. By the age of 12, I dared to dream of competing in the Olympics. Through years of hard work, dedication, and countless hours of training, I earned my spot on the US National Team, became a 5-time US National Champion, and secured victories in various competitions. But when the opportunity arose to represent my father's homeland, The Gambia, a new chapter began. With unwavering family support, I pursued this historic chance, qualifying for the Olympic Trials.
Then, tragedy struck. Just four months before the Olympic Qualifications, I was accidentally shot in the leg, a victim of random violent act. In an instant, my dreams were shattered. I faced uncertainty leaving me wounded and uncertain about my future. Despite the doubts that clouded my mind, by the grace of God and the unwavering support of my family, coach, and well-wishers propelled me forward.
Through sheer determination and unwavering support, we made it to the Trials, and WE QUALIFIED!
Now, I stand before you, not just with a dream, but with an opportunity. With your support, I can make history on the world stage and chase the ultimate prize: Olympic gold.
This journey hasn't been easy, but it's fueled by passion, resilience, and the belief that dreams, even shattered, can be rebuilt. Every contribution, big or small, will push me closer to realizing that dream. Your support and contribution are invaluable as I embark on this journey, and I am sincerely grateful for your belief in my dream.
Thank you for reading my story. Thank you for considering giving my dream a chance.
