Support Alea's Last Big Adventure
Donation protected
We are hoping to raise funds to cover expenses for a dream trip for a kind, compassionate single mom with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.
This trip is a “once in a lifetime” opportunity for Alea to experience the outdoor adventure activities she loved so much before cancer
had such a huge devastating impact on her life. As someone with stage 4 cancer, it is hard to know how
long Alea’s life will be.
Going on this trip could be the last big adventure she is able to take. Let’s help
Alea follow her dream of going to Italy for this camp and help the hope inside her grow so that she is
even stronger in her journey with cancer. Help us make her dream come true!
Alea Pappe is a single mother who has worked hard her whole life to support her own dreams as well as
the dreams of others.
As a kind, compassionate person, Alea has always made an effort to help others through volunteer efforts and a personal mission to help those in need wherever she could, whether
she knew them or not.
In February of 2018, Alea was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She spent months enduring surgeries and
treatments hoping to beat the cancer, but things didn’t go as planned. Alea endured more treatments
and more surgeries. By 2019, she had to quit her job of ten years due to side effects of the cancer
treatments. In September of 2021, after 9 months of intense pain in her left hip, she was ultimately
diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. The cancer had moved into Alea’s bones and would
now be a permanent part of her life. She endured radiation and more surgery, ultimately going on cancer
targeting immunotherapy and hormone blocking treatments. By August 2022, her husband asked for a
divorce which meant she had to leave the home and town that supported her through the cancer
journey.
Alea has spent the past two years enduring the challenges of life including divorce, moving,
death of her best friend and companion, and financial hardship all while continuing cancer treatment
and enduring the side effects that go along with it. The past two years have been difficult and challenging
but Alea has persevered.
Through a twist of fate, a new friend told Alea about an adventure camp in Italy for people with cancer
called Campo Base – Adventure Therapy (Way Up – en – Campo Base APS Onlus
(associazionecampobase.org). This sounded like an exciting opportunity that could give Alea something
to put hope in and shift her focus from the struggles of the past two years. She applied for the camp not
knowing if she would get chosen for one of the few spots available each year.
In July 2024, Alea received
a letter offering her a spot at the camp for September 2024. She couldn’t believe her luck and could
finally feel hope beginning to grow. The camp is a chance for people with cancer to experience outdoor
adventure activities like sailing, hiking, rock climbing, biking, and more. It is held in an old castle in Northern
Italy. The cost of the camp is covered but participants must pay their way to Italy and any incidentals.
Without a job and living only on disability income, Alea’s financial resources are very limited.
