Support Alex & Sterling for the 2024 Democratic Convention

Hello there!

We are Alex Gutierrez, and Sterling Simms, and we were elected by Democrats across Colorado to serve as Delegates to the 2024 Democratic Convention in Chicago!

Born in Los Angeles, Alex Gutierrez is the son of immigrants from Aguascalientes, México. The eldest of five boys, Gutierrez began participating in politics at a young age due to two major events: the attacks on September 11th and the fight for LGBT+ Rights and Equality.

Wanting to give back and help the many activists who came before him, Gutierrez has spent a decade helping elect Democrats across the country to bring effective leadership, and inspire community engagement.

In Alex's previous work with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), he showed a commitment to help save our Democratic majority in the House of Representatives by organizing hundreds of events with community-based partners all over California. In that same spirit he flew out to Georgia in a national partnership with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), the Georgia Democratic Party and other state Democratic Party’s to help in the Runoff Election to keep the US Senate seat and build the Democratic majority in the US Senate. Immediately after this he went on to work on the Mayoral Campaign in the City and County of Denver (CCD) in the state of Colorado. In the Mayoral campaign, they placed first in the General Election in a field of over a dozen candidates, and they went on to win the Runoff and got right into the Transitional work of setting up the new Mayor’s Administration. In this cycle they organized hundreds of meet and greet events in the homes of supporters all over the CCD, community town halls for constituent feedback during the Transition, canvass launches, phone bank events, and fundraisers all throughout the course of the campaign.

Beyond politics, Gutierrez is the proud father of a soon to be 18-year-old son, is an uncle, and an advocate for sober living and plant-based eating for 10 years. He enjoys reading non-fiction, is a former server/bartender, and enjoys watching musicals, historical documentaries, comedy and horror movies.

Sterling Simms is a public servant, campaign organizer, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and a proud member of the LGBT community, who is currently serving as Operations Coordinator for the Denver Mayor's Outreach Office.

Born in Phoenix, Arizona as a triplet, he developed an early interest in politics having grown up during the Bush Administration which taught him early on that elections have consequences. In high school, he began working to elect Democrats in an Arizona entrenched in Republican politics.

After graduating high school in 2019, his passion for service led him to join the U.S. Marine Corps. Post-service, Sterling moved to Denver, contributing to various Democratic campaigns, including Mayor Mike Johnston's in 2023. At 22 years old, Sterling was appointed by Mayor Johnston to the successful House1000 Initiative, which brought over 1,000 unhoused Denverites indoors in just six months. As one of the youngest members of the Colorado delegation, he is eager to help elect our next President at this critical time in our history.
