Dear friends,
Our sister Alexandra Crow received news that there have been no improvements from the last 9 weeks of chemo and immunotherapy. This news is devastating and yet Alex is continuing on with courage and faith. If you are new here, this is the journey of a young mother with cervical cancer that began over a year ago during her pregnancy with a now earthside beautiful baby boy named Ash. Can you imagine finding out that your dream to be a mother has come true AND at the same time receiving a diagnosis that a cancer is in the exact body that is also creating a miracle?
Since this new CT scan from May 2024 has shown there have been no improvements, her doctors have recommended a more intense treatment plan that includes radiation and targeted chemotherapy. She needs our help in many ways and one of them is financially. She needs our help and prayers to give her the best chance possible to one day share her story of radical remission and to prove miracles are possible for us all.
Before I begin sharing her new treatment plan, I wish to tell you a brief story of Alex through the eyes of a woman who loves her as deeply as a sister could love… perhaps in the way you love her too…
Alexandra Lane Crow came into my life the same way you would experience someone offering you a hot cup of tea on a cold winter's day. Soothing, nourishing, joyful. She danced like the steam billowing from the cup and laughed effortlessly the way the tea laughs when it's being poured. She has that way about her and if you know her, you will also feel the need to hear her laugh and watch her dance for as long as possible. Through her sparkly blue green eyes, she captivates one with her unwavering presence and devotional love. She has always shown up for the people she loves and my intention with sharing a part of her story is to offer her back what she has always given so freely.
One morning in April of 2023, Alex began bleeding heavily during her second trimester of her pregnancy and was rushed to the hospital. It was then she found out her waters broke with her 22 week old baby in womb. She was required to stay in the hospital to be monitored and to have an emergency C-section. Those days turned into 11 weeks (!!) total and during that time, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Imagine laying in a hospital bed with a big belly holding your child, and you receive that news… It is enough to make anyone lose their minds entirely. But what she did with that time will tell you who she really is at the core. She spent that time singing, playing music, grieving in ritual, setting up altar spaces in her hospital room, creating handmade gifts for friends & family, and sharing her natural way of loving presence amidst the scariest news one could receive. She has blown me and countless others away with how she has maneuvered this time of shock and terror.
On June 19th 2023, Ash was delivered into this world via C-Section and monitored in the NICU for the first 2 months of his life. While Alex was healing her own scars and systems, she drove an hour to that hospital every single day with her lunch packed and gazed at his little hands, little feet, and smiled in awe for what this life has offered her. The bond they have is beyond our comprehension. All this time her beloved partner Greg showed up in all the ways a father and man of honor can. He is the hardest working man I know and 100% committed to his family and community. Working all days and tucking their baby boy in at night.. These funds not only support Alex's journey, but will also take some of the weight off from Greg's shoulders that have carried far more than a man's weight.
Fast forward to a few months ago in February 2024. I visited Alex in her home and noticed how her thinned wrists held the hands of the eternal healer and soothed her baby boy's cry. Her hairless crown shined her regality and her smile seemed to be coming directly from her heart. This woman is special. This woman has gifts to offer us. This woman deserves to continue to be a sister, mother, soon to be wife, and devoted student of life.
Please, give what you can so we can see Alex go into radical remission and hear her songs for years to come. Please, give what you can so that Alex can get married to the love of her life Greg Demartini and be the best mother to this miracle child named Ash. Please, give what you can so she can continue to be a beacon of hope for us all.
From a woman with eternal love for my sister Alex Crow,
Marisa Franco
THE TREATMENT PLAN:
Alex will be undergoing daily radiation from M-F in a downtown Austin clinic (1 hr from her home) for 6 weeks straight alongside a weekly targeted chemotherapy & immunotherapy treatment. Her father is flying in from Ohio to help drive her to and from daily treatments, and they are currently seeking a full-time nanny to support Ash during this time. The future is unknown, and doctors do not know how her body will respond or how long she will need radiation, but if we reach her first goal that will at least get her through these first 6 weeks.
