Angels of Love & Paws: Help Pets & Families

Life is full of challenges, but sometimes, small acts of kindness can make the biggest difference. That’s what we’ve discovered at Alford's Angels Dog Grooming, where we’ve seen how much love and companionship our furry friends bring to those who need it most.

This is the story of how one simple idea inspired a mission to help more people, their loyal companions, and our incredible community.

It began with Chloe, a sweet and gentle therapy dog whose owner, Kim, is battling breast cancer. I’m Amanda Alford, the owner of Alford’s Angels, and one day, I reached out to Kim with an offer. “Can I groom Chloe for you, free of charge?” I asked. Kim’s response was immediate and heartfelt. She told me she had been overwhelmed by her diagnosis, with friends asking how they could help, yet not knowing what to say. This, she said, was truly a huge relief. It didn’t just lift a practical burden—it brought comfort during an incredibly tough time.

That experience stayed with me. It reminded me of another moment from last Christmas, when a long-time client, who was also fighting cancer, couldn’t afford to have her dog groomed. I couldn’t imagine her going through the holidays without the joy her pup brought her, so I gave her dog a fresh groom at no cost. And closer to home, I’ve seen the impact on my own mom who is also battling cancer, and her dog Nova is like her very own support blanket. Her furry companion is not just a pet but a source of comfort, sleeping beside her every night. Fortunately, I’m a groomer, and I can help. But it made me wonder—what about others?

These stories moved Melissa, one of our talented and compassionate groomers, who suggested turning this small act of kindness into something bigger. That’s when Angels of Love & Paws was born—a campaign to extend our efforts so we can support more individuals and their furry angels in times of need. Together, as a team and as a community, we can make an even greater impact.

For so many people, dogs are more than pets—they’re family. They are sources of unconditional love. But when life throws curveballs like illness or financial hardship, even providing basic care for these beloved animals becomes a struggle. Grooming, while seemingly a small thing, makes a world of difference for both the pets and their owners. A clean, healthy dog can brighten someone’s day, reduce stress, and remind them that they’re not alone.

That’s why Angels of Love & Paws is so important. It’s not just about grooming—it’s about giving hope, about easing a burden that so many face in silence. Imagine a single mother working two jobs to make ends meet, struggling to keep her children cared for while her loyal dog stays by her side, asking for nothing but love in return. Think of someone battling a disease like cancer, trying to balance medical expenses with everyday costs, while their dog offers comfort during endless nights. These are the people our campaign is for. These are the families we want to help.

With Angels of Love & Paws, we’re calling on the community to step in and make a difference. Buffalo has always been a city with a big heart, a place where neighbors look out for one another. This is our chance to come together and show what kindness can do. By raising funds through GoFundMe, we aim to help at least ten families, by covering their pet's grooming needs for a year. But this dream can only become a reality with your help.

Every dollar raised has a direct impact. Each contribution means another dog gets to feel the love and care it deserves—and, in turn, another pet owner gets the peace of mind they so desperately need. It’s a simple act, but its effect is profound. It’s not just about keeping dogs healthy and happy—it’s about restoring dignity, bringing smiles to faces, and reinforcing the bond between people and their furry angels.

We also want this campaign to be a celebration of community. That’s why, as we reach our fundraising goals, we’ll be inviting you—the wonderful people of Buffalo—to nominate families in need. Together, we can find those who could use a little extra love.
