Support Algodones' Wild Horses Survival
Donation protected
Hello all!
We moved to Algodones, NM in 2020 and were immediately touched by the presence of wild horses that roam the land of the San Felipe reservation, which is also our backyard. Horses are a symbol of freedom, yet they face a dire situation of starvation. The reservation considers them wild, allowing nature to take its course, which unfortunately means these horses often struggle to find enough food to survive or fight for food to survive.
With the past 3 years bringing insufficient rainfall, the horses have not been able to rely on natural foraging. Without intervention, many of them will succumb to starvation in my own backyard, something I do not want to have to see. Having grown up around horses, I simply cannot stand by and watch them suffer.
We currently have around 50 wild horses all competing for scarce food resources. I am spending about $500 a month, which only covers 12 horses. Two of my neighbors are also contributing, but together, we can barely meet the bare minimum.
This is where your help comes in. Your donation, no matter the amount, can make a tremendous difference. The mares especially need proper nutrition, to produce milk for their foals. By contributing you're not just feeding a horse, you're saving a life and supporting the next generation.
If we exceed our fundraising goal we will extend our support to the wild horses in Placitas, NM ensuring even more of these magnificent creatures get the nutrition they need.
Your generosity will have a lasting impact. Thank you for joining us in this vital mission to protect and feed the wild horses of New Mexico.
With heartfelt thanks,
Katherine
