Alicia’s Fight against blood cancer (MDS)
Day 4. Went pretty smooth. They planned to use the IV once more that they left in yesterday, but it was no good by this morning, so we used the port. It was pretty sore her poking around but I didn’t have any reactions today!
Update 10/4/24. Last night & today was not great. Lots of pain and another reaction to the chemo. However, we got moved into an apartment today so we can be a little more at home & comfortable.
Day 1 down. Couldn’t get an IV started which is norm. Finally got it in my wrist. Pre-meds and treatment went ok. Pretty smooth actually until I had an allergic reaction. 2 rounds of Benadryl and steroids and I was out like a light. One more IV tomorrow and then surgery for a port.
To our friends, family & community…
We need to come together and help support Alicia and her family during this time in need. As most of you know, she is very active in the wrestling community as well as the motocross community. We all need to rally together now to help her as she has always helped so many others. Alicia has fought one medical battle after another throughout the last several years. 8 years ago she was diagnosed with a rare heart condition that led to a couple open heart surgeries. 4 years ago she was diagnosed with CRPS in her left foot after multiple breaks wouldn’t heal properly and last year she was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called MDS (pre-leukemia). Throughout the last year, she’s had several different treatments that haven’t proven to work. December 2nd she will start a 7/21 day cycle of chemotherapy in Denver, Co. The plan is to do this for 4 months and repeat a bone marrow biopsy. If her blood counts look better, the hope is to continue chemo for 2 years at which that time she will receive a bone marrow transplant. Her daughter Kamryn and her husband Steven will be staying at home with her 2 boys, Koltyn & Dennis while she is away. This will be a challenging time for all of them. Unfortunately, insurance only covers 80% of costs. She will travel back and forth as often as possible to be with her family. If you can find it in your heart to help alleviate travel, lodging & medical expenses, her friends & family would greatly appreciate it. If you are unable to help financially, please say some prayers.
