Dear friends,

Last June, my sister, Allison Downie, received devastating news. After years of wrongly diagnosed health concerns and abdominal pain, Allie was diagnosed with stage 4 Goblet Cell Adenocarcinoma, an aggressive and exceptionally rare appendix cancer affecting only 1 in 2 million people per year. With no standard treatments and very little research, her fight is an uphill battle. Since her diagnosis, Allie has endured 10 rounds of chemotherapy and major abdominal surgery to remove numerous tumours and is unable to work due to painful neuropathy. Although Allie’s prognosis isn’t good, her medical team presses on, planning more chemo and costly experimental and alternative treatments not covered by insurance.

Allie is a fighter who smiles through her pain and fears. A naturopath and master herbalist, she has put herself on a rigorous and costly anti-cancer protocol, determined to outlive her 2-year prognosis so she can see her son become an Airman in the United States Air Force and pursue his dream of becoming an aerospace engineer and astronaut.

Allison is a dedicated single mom to my brilliant 11-year-old nephew, strengthening her determination to live. Her son Lyric is a funny, outgoing boy who loves Roblox, Minecraft, Anime, and playing his piano. When Allie feels strong enough, they dream of simple joys—fishing, hiking, road trips, and bike rides. As medical bills and uncertainty mount, their future hangs in the balance.
