Supporting Artists from the Altadena Fire
Donation protected
The Eaton Fire destroyed my sister's neighborhood at Laurel and Olive in Altadena in the early hours of January 8th.
My sister Lilia, her husband César, and son Arian are a family of teachers & artists. She’s a talented costume designer, and with my brother-in-law, together are teachers of the Pasadena Waldorf school. My nephew studies viola at the conservatory in DTLA. Collectively, in their work I have seen their passion and collaboration for the communities that they’ve served.
This chapter significantly changed in one night. High winds, the Eaton canyon inferno and the power outage complicated their evacuation; moving as best they could in the dark, they evacuated with their backpacks, hoping to return, soon. Fortunately, my nephew was able to save his viola. In the days following the devastating losses of the Altadena community, I’ve witnessed their resiliency and process for a new chapter past this incredible impact.
They bring light to our lives, now I hope you can unite with me to reflect light back to them.
We're seeking support to cover unexpected costs from the historic event for my family. These funds will assist with needs that are not fully covered by other sources of aid.
We hope this aid to them through this challenging time can allow Lilia, Cesar and Arian to address the many aspects of recovering from this crisis.
And for the community of Altadena so close to our heart, we pray for the fires to be contained, for the safety of our first responders and for all who’ve been affected.
With so much gratitude for your support,
Leslie
