Amazon Labor Union Democratic Reform Caucus organizer Sultana Hossain was fired last August 2023 from Amazon’s JFK8 warehouse in New York.
Sultana was a Tier 3 Learning Trainer who onboarded, mentored and supported thousands of associates during her four years at JFK8. She was known as a warehouse leader who was dedicated to advocating for the rights and fair treatment of her co-workers. Her co-workers sought her help frequently as she fearlessly fought for them no matter what issues they came to her with, from harassment by management or HR and unfair write-ups to fighting against Amazon’s unfair and illegal time-off, medical accommodation, productivity, safety, and language discrimination practices and policies.
Sultana was fired after months of retaliatory mistreatment for making several reports against Amazon management for harassment and violating labor laws and policies. In response to her termination, Reform ALU organizers marched on the boss to deliver a petition which was signed by more than 100 workers at JFK8 in less than a week to call on Amazon to reinstate Sultana. Charges were filed against Amazon with the NLRB. Our caucus has stayed committed to winning Sultana’s job back and to continue to fight for all our co-workers who have been illegally terminated for organizing.
Since her termination last summer, Sultana has been struggling to pay her rent and other bills. She has been balancing working part-time service jobs while staying dedicated to the union fight at JFK8 as one of Reform ALU’s lead organizers. She needs support paying her cost-of-living bills as labor charges are filed and her retaliatory termination is fought to be overturned in court.
Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in this journey towards justice.
