Support Amazon Conservation Roof Renovation

Hi there, my name is Kellen! A group of conservationists who work in the Peruvian Amazon need our help fixing their damaged roof caused by the heavy rains over the past 2 years. Their research station, Biological Las Pierdas, is located near Las Piedra River which runs 650km and flows into the Amazon River. The Las Piedra River is a major tributary of the Madre De Dios region, where biologists, conservationists, rangers, and nature enthusiasts come to study and explore the biodiversity of wildlife and plants. They also run ecotourism groups to help raise awareness of environmental issues. In 2021, I had the extraordinary opportunity to visit the Peruvian Amazon, where I had memorable experiences connecting with the natural world and meeting some of the most inspiring people.

The lodge holds 20 guests, and the station contains its own kitchen and bathrooms along with a comfortable open space for leisure/relaxation. They hire guides, chefs and boat drivers from local indigenous communities who carry deep knowledge about medicinal plants, wildlife, and the ecosystem. Working in ecotourism has given them a stable income to provide for their family while also working to protect their land; however, due to the pandemic, it has been difficult to attract tourists and raise enough funds to work on the station's infrastructure and any necessary remodeling. Their goal for future travels is to lead groups to help develop more scientific research and conservationist work focused on plant medicine and biological diversity. Currently, the roof's station has large holes where further destruction will prevent them from holding travelers in safe conditions and going forward with any significant work.
