Support Amelia Fowlie and her Family
Donation protected
This campaign is for Amelia Fowlie who is currently at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital after contracting a strain of step pneumoniae that is causing life threatening complications and is attacking her little 4 year old body.
After 6 days of a high fever and constant throwing up, things weren't improving and Amelia was in bad shape. She was taken to urgent care on Sunday but that didn't provide much answers... then Tuesday morning her mom noticed Amelia had very labored breathing so she took her to the pediatrician and the doctor's immediately said she needs to go to the hospital because they could barely hear any air flow in her lungs. So she was taken by ambulance to the ER and then placed in ICU where she's being treated now. When she arrived at the hospital she was actually a form of septic. What was initially thought to be the flu, is actually strep pneumoniae which is in her blood and lungs. There is uncertainty about how she got this and when it spread from her lungs into her blood stream. She has fluid in both her lungs restricting her air flow and her kidneys are failing due to dehydration. She's on breathing treatments and antibiotics, has a chest tube in place to drain the fluid in her lungs, and they're pumping her body with fluids to revive her kidney's. It's going to be a long process and she could be in the hospital for up to 3 weeks.
That being said, this is going to be a huge medical bill for parents Hillary and CJ. They are a single-income family with 3 kids under 4 1/2 years old. They'll have to pay thousands of dollars to cover their deductible and other bills for this process. Additionally, during this first week that Amelia is in the hospital CJ won't be able to work in a full capacity and will experience a loss of income since he's commission based. Therefore, they could really use some financial assistance for the bills and expenses ahead.
If you know Hillary & CJ, you know that they are very giving people of their time, money, and love for others and would never ask or expect financial help. But that's what's so great about this resource is that someone else can rally their community around them to show them support through prayer, words of encouragement, food, and monetary donations. In moments like this, all you want the parents to be concerned about is seeing their child get better. We don't want them to also carry the stress of the financial burden this will leave them with. Not to mention the many trips back and forth to the hospital for the weeks to come will rack up a nice gas bill and also take time away from grocery shopping for the kids, so meals for the family would be a great help too.
Many of you have call or texted asking how you can help, so here are some ideas:
1. Prayer for Amelia and family
2. Financial donations to help them cover the medical bills and the loss of income
3. Food! Here is a link to their meal train: https://mealtrain.com/l9ezrd
If you know Amelia well, you know she is a vibrant, spirited, and sweet girl. It has been so hard to see her suffering like this and to see her so drained of color and energy. Please pray for improvement in her condition - specifically that :
- the doctors can quickly identify which antibiotics to use to best treat the infections
- for her breathing to get better and that they can properly drain the fluid in her lungs
- that the doctors can quickly revive her kidneys with little long term damage
Hillary & CJ have said that they have been overwhelmed with thankfulness for the outpouring of prayers and support for Amelia and themselves during this difficult time. They are confident that God can do anything and that He has truly given them both a peace that surpasses all understanding and are praising Him each minute for that. We're told that Amelia is an A++ patient and every adores her and says she has been the best patient they've ever had.
Hillary was reminded by two different people in the last couple days of the story of Lazarus from John 11 in the Bible...
Mary and Martha believed Jesus could have healed Lazarus. But Jesus wanted a resurrection. If He always met our expectations when we wanted, He'd never have an opportunity to exceed them. The scene of our greatest disappointment becomes the setting of our greatest miracle. Hillary, CJ, and their extended family are finding comfort in knowing God is capable of great healing and miracles and that His timing is the best timing.
The Bible also says in Psalms 30:2 - "Lord my God, I prayed to you, and you healed me."
Let us lift Amelia, the doctors, and her family up in prayer. Thank you to everyone who has been such an encouragement to them and for your willingness to help them through this!
