Support Amethyist's Recovery and Return to Cycling

On the night of March 8, 2024, Amethyist Rain got into a major hit-and-run accident with a car while cycling to meet with her local biking group (BICI) at Shaw Market. The car was speeding in a residential neighborhood and did not have its lights on at night. It did not attempt to stop at the sign and blew through the intersection, causing her to strike it head-on.

The accident broke her collarbone and damaged the bicycle beyond repair. Additionally, the car sped off and did not return to the scene of the accident. A police report was filed, but we don't anticipate the police taking any action.

Since the accident, Amethyist has had to undergo major surgery and is facing a long recovery process. She did not have health insurance prior to the accident, and is unsure if she will be able to obtain coverage for medical expenses. Since the accident was a hit-and-run, she likely will not be receiving any money from the driver's insurance.

Amethyist does not own a car, so she has been unable to get around while recovering. Normally, she does active work like gardening and dog walking to earn money, but she has been unable to do that since being injured. She can't even house-sit, as she has no transportation.

This fundraiser is to help with medical and living expenses while Amethyist is recovering and unable to work. She has applied for financial assistance from the hospital where she was treated, but has not heard back about that application, so the goal may be increased if the application is rejected.

Amethyist is a pillar of Saint Louis's biking community. She is co-President of The Monthly Cycle, a local cycling group for women, trans people, and non-binary people (https://themonthlycycle.square.site/). She is passionate about making cycling safer and more accessible to marginalized communities. Help her get back on her bike and living her full life again!
