My name is Dawn, and on behalf of my amazing teammates, I am writing to introduce you to our beautiful friend, Ana Yu.
Ana and I met in 2011 as Teammates and were instant friends. To date, we still work together as part of a fantastic team. Ana always has a positive attitude, never complains, and works incredibly hard. She is adored by her peers, friends, and family.
Ana began feeling ill in 2024. After several medical visits and countless tests, she found out her liver was failing and needed a transplant as soon as possible! You can imagine the sheer shock of a healthy woman to hear this but as Ana always does, she focused on her 7-year-old son, Taylor, and the day-to-day activities, as she patiently waited for her new liver transplant. With this operation Ana had so much hope her life would get back to normal; that she could be Taylor’s number one fan at his school awards ceremonies, or his baseball games and even at his Taekwondo tests.
Ana’s liver transplant occurred right around her January 1st birthday. She baffled the team at John Hopkins Medical Center with her quick recovery. She exceeded all their expectations, which is no surprise, if you know Ana. She was back at work only a month post-op, following her initial transplant surgery. All was well until March of this year.
Unfortunately, Ana’s body is rejecting her new liver. Doctors are concluding that she may have PTLD. A rare and serious complication that can occur after organ or stem cell transplants. It’s a type of lymphoma, or lymphatic system cancer, that develops when white blood cells called lymphocytes multiply uncontrollably. The only way to confirm it is by doing a biopsy, which is scheduled for today. PTLD usually affects patients 10-15 years after a transplant. Ana would have gotten it within 3 months of the transplant, which should not be possible! It only affects 2% of transplant patients and is a very serious condition that requires immunotherapy to treat it.
Ana has been faced with countless tests, scans, procedures, and surgeries. No doubt she is exhausted, anxious and needing our help.
Ana is a woman of God, an incredible mother, generous and inspiring to others! And remains determined and positive while facing all these unexpected challenges.
We are starting this fund in hopes of alleviating any stress that Ana has regarding her mounting expenses. She is the sole provider of her family and if we can help her monetarily, she can focus on her health and most importantly her life with her son Taylor.
If you can find it in your heart to help our amazing friend, mom, sister, daughter get back to the normal healthy life she deserves, she would be incredibly grateful. No amount is too small. Anything helps! The funds raised will go directly to Ana and her son.
On behalf of my colleagues-friends, we thank you for taking the time to learn about our courageous friend, Ana Yu.
