ONE DAY AT A TIME: Support Ana's Heart Transplant Recovery

Ana's Story

As you all may know, this is my mom Ana, and she's been fighting heart failure for almost 6 years now. After countless doctor's appointments, referrals, an internal cardioverter defibrillator, 24/7 IV medications, and many, many hospital stays, on October 18th, we had to return to the hospital because she was no longer able to be at home with IV medication and her heart failure kept worsening, not allowing her to do her daily tasks like shower or have an appetite for a meal. After 20 days in the hospital, my mom's heart could no longer pump on its own and an Impella Heart Pump was inserted, which sent her straight to ICU. This was a difficult process, but slowly my mom was able to eat again and smile again. After 4 days in the ICU and many machines, medications, and a computer attached to my mom, we received the greatest news that my mom would receive a new heart! My mom received her heart transplant on November 10th!!!!!

Our Family History

Many of you know that my older sister, Estefania De La Rosa, passed away in February 2011 at the age of 19 years. She passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest that was caused by the enlargement of her heart, and her autopsy detailed her reason for death was Dilated Cardiomyopathy. A few years later, in October 2018, my baby brother Jonathan Suarez was diagnosed with the same heart failure, which was a devastation for my mom. By the grace of God, my little brother Jonathan received a heart transplant in February 2019. This is when we found out that heart failure was genetic and passed down from my mom's side of the family. Fast forward to November 2019, my mom was diagnosed with heart failure. Having my mom be diagnosed with the same heart failure as my big sister and baby brother has devastated our family tremendously.

Ana's Future...

Over the past years and recent weeks, we’ve been keeping my mom's condition and journey private, but as we realize this journey is going to require we stay in Phoenix for a few months, we reach out to all our friends & family to help with some expenses for my family.

Now that we are focusing on her recovery, we must stay within an hour of the hospital. We will need to be staying in Phoenix for 3 months to ensure her heart has no rejection and the correct medication is being given. With such a quick time frame, and since we do not have any friends or family in Phoenix, we will be renting in Phoenix. This is why today, I have created this GoFundMe, to ask all my friends and family to help out as much as you can with additional expenses we will incur while we stay in Phoenix. La historia de Ana

Como todos ustedes saben, esta es mi mamá Ana, y ha estado luchando contra la insuficiencia cardíaca durante casi 6 años. Después de innumerables citas médicas, derivaciones, un desfibrilador cardioversor interno, medicamentos intravenosos las 24 horas del día, los 7 días de la semana y muchas, muchas estadías en el hospital, el 18 de octubre tuvimos que regresar al hospital porque ya no podía estar en casa con medicamentos intravenosos y su insuficiencia cardíaca seguía empeorando, lo que no le permitía realizar sus tareas diarias, como ducharse o tener apetito para comer. Después de 20 días en el hospital, el corazón de mi mamá ya no podía bombear por sí solo y se le insertó una bomba cardíaca Impella que la envió directamente a la UCI. Este fue un proceso difícil, pero poco a poco mi mamá pudo volver a comer y sonreír. Después de 4 días en la UCI y muchas máquinas, medicamentos y una computadora conectada a mi mamá, ¡recibimos la mejor noticia de que mi mamá recibiría un nuevo corazón! ¡Mi mamá recibió su trasplante de corazón el 10 de noviembre!

Nuestra historia familiar

Muchos de ustedes saben que mi hermana mayor, Estefanía De La Rosa, falleció en febrero de 2011 a la edad de 19 años. Falleció a causa de un paro cardíaco repentino causado por el agrandamiento de su corazón y su autopsia detalló que la causa de su muerte fue una miocardiopatía dilatada. Unos años más tarde, en octubre de 2018, a mi hermano menor, Jonathan Suárez, le diagnosticaron la misma insuficiencia cardíaca, lo que fue una devastación para mi madre. Por la gracia de Dios, mi hermano menor, Jonathan, recibió un trasplante de corazón en febrero de 2019. Fue entonces cuando descubrimos que la insuficiencia cardíaca era genética y se transmitía por el lado de la familia de mi madre. En noviembre de 2019, a mi madre le diagnosticaron insuficiencia cardíaca. El hecho de que a mi madre le hayan diagnosticado la misma insuficiencia cardíaca que a mi hermana mayor y mi hermano menor ha devastado enormemente a nuestra familia.

El futuro de Ana...

Durante los últimos años y las últimas semanas hemos mantenido en privado la condición y el viaje de mi madre, pero como nos dimos cuenta de que este viaje requerirá que nos quedemos en Phoenix durante unos meses, nos comunicamos con todos nuestros amigos y familiares para que nos ayuden con algunos gastos para mi familia.

Ahora que nos estamos centrando en su recuperación, debemos quedarnos a una hora del hospital. Tendremos que quedarnos en Phoenix durante 3 meses para asegurarnos de que su corazón no tenga rechazo y de que se le administre la medicación correcta. Con un plazo tan breve y como no tenemos amigos ni familiares en Phoenix, alquilaremos en Phoenix. Por eso, hoy he creado este GoFundMe para pedirles a todos mis amigos y familiares que nos ayuden tanto como puedan para los gastos medicos inesperados mientras estamos en Phoenix.
