Support and Justice for Alex

Alex enjoys and loves to travel. Getting her passport stamp is a highlight for her. Alex has traveled solo, with friends and or family. She loves to fly Cessna airplanes. She has achieved over 60+ flight hours with the hopes of obtaining her private pilot’s license. She has obtained 2 master degrees; an MBA and Civil Engineering. Also was in the process of pursuing a phd degree. Two weeks before this situation occurred, she was hired as a project manager at an airport to help rebuild their infrastructure.
In May 2022, on her 27th birthday, Alex received and accepted airfare from someone ( who I will refer to as B) whom she thought was a friend. It was given to her as a birthday present and B would have accompanied her. They both would be traveling to the country Jordan (located in the Middle East). However, according to B there was an emergency situation at his place of employment, and therefore B would have to travel the following day. Alex felt comfortable enough to travel to Jordan alone knowing that B would board the plane the following day to meet her. Alex was running late and B drove her to the airport. Upon arrival, B asked her to please take his luggage so he didn’t have to check it in. Due to the fact she didn’t want to miss her flight, she agreed.
Alex traveled from Dallas Forth Worth International Airport then connected to Chicago O’hare International Airport. From there she boarded a flight at Amman Queen Alia Airport. Upon arrival at Amman Queen Alia Airport in Jordan, she was detained for possession of marijuana in the suitcase she was taking for B. She traveled through 2 major international airports and apparently there was no detection of marijuana in the luggage. After being detained, the Embassy provided 3 different amounts of marijuana at 3 different times. Needless to say, she has 4 different case numbers, and we have yet to obtain a copy of the case files.
This ordeal has been surreal. There has been an ongoing investigation. B has been recently arrested. According to the DEA, B has done this before to other women and a record of him traveling solo to Jordan a year prior to this event. The judicial system in Jordan is quite different from the United States. Trying to get her home has been a long process: countless calls to the United States Embassy based out of Jordan, Congressman offices, Foreign Policy Advisors, international lawyers, and so on. The timeline has also been extended because of the numerous holidays in Jordan where work is not permitted.
We've also had our unfortunate share of unfair lawyers who were more interested in nickel and diming than bringing justice and relief for Alex's case. They could care less if she was set up, nor understand that someone has been arrested in the matter. We have tried to get her home quickly but we are at a crossroads where we must ask for assistance in bringing her home. We are in the process of securing counsel/advocate who has excelled in getting detainees home.
Many friends and family have reached out. We weren’t in a position to provide information which we did not know. We never wanted to burden anyone with this news. In addition, as a parent, it was excruciating to discuss because truly there wasn’t much I could do to help my daughter. At this time, we are asking for monetary donations, prayers, and affirmations to bring Alex home sooner than later. The money will go towards legal fees.
Alex is in a country not of her own, with a language not of her own, and a male gender dominated country. She is under a lot of stress but doing the best she can. We have been able to communicate with her. She thanks everyone who has reached out, offered assistance and will donate to assist during these challenging times.
I can hope that this will be a learning experience for all, especially young people. Please do not trust and put your confidence in everybody. Think about everything that you are partaking in. Your life can change in an instant.
We thank each and everyone that is willing to contribute to Alex’s cause.
