Support and Strength for Miller Jenkins
On Sunday, October 22, Miller Jenkins was involved in a horrific automobile accident. It is by the grace of God that Miller was spared any head or brain injuries, however he has had spinal cord injury. A break occurred at his T-11 vertebrae and required surgery. The surgery was a success, however Miller remains paralyzed from the waist down. He is currently in the Duke University Neuro ICU in Durham, NC. He is in a tremendous amount of pain but has been surrounded by his parents, Whitney and Chris, sister Abigail, his grandparents from Richmond, VA, friends and family for support.
Miller had just begun his freshman year at UNC-Charlotte and was looking forward to returning after his fall break later that weekend. With his injuries, this won’t be possible and he will instead be heading to extensive inpatient rehab once he leaves Duke. As most of you know, Miller is a bright light, a gentle soul with his own great brand of humor. He loves the Phoenix Suns, music, his family (especially Nanna!) and his wide berth of friends!
While the distant future is unknown, what we do know is that intense rehab will be a certainty. At this point, the family is looking at different options but Whitney will be away from work and home for extended stretches to be with Miller. The financial tolls are daunting, not to mention the emotional tolls. We all love Miller and his family and pray he can receive the very best medical care available as he launches his road to recovery. We ask first and foremost for prayers for Miller’s healing and strength and comfort for his family. Also, please consider helping to reach our financial goal to assist them in their expenses. The foreseeable expenses include those incurred from his hospital medical care, inpatient rehab facility, potential out of town housing for Whitney as well as special accommodations needed once Miller returns home.
Miller, derived from the Gaelic word mailer, means “a man wearing armor or a soldier”. There’s no doubt God has been protecting him in armor and Miller is fighting hard in this battle. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any assistance you can offer in Miller’s fight to recovery.
“Do not look forward to what might happen tomorrow, the same everlasting Father, who cares for you today, will take care of you tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.”
