Support Karsten "Crash" Gopinath's family as they grieve
Donation protected
On December 12, 2024, a tragic car accident in Los Angeles took the life of Karsten “Crash” Gopinath. His wife, Rosanne Cunningham (my sister), and their daughters Kira and Asha need time to grieve, heal as a family, and make final arrangements. Your contribution will allow them this time and alleviate the unexpected financial challenges they now face.
Karsten was an amazing cinematographer, but he is loved by so many of us because of the extraordinary human being he was. He lives in the hundreds of lives he has touched with his blend of kindness and motivation. He will continue to be the muse of activity to many of us whom he has inspired to join him at the trails, the ocean, the court, and games of all manner. His laughter lives in all of us. His generosity lives in all of us.
Karsten has shaped the very word “generous” for me. Year after year he has given that word a face and a smile. From the earliest days when he helped me get a footing in the film industry to his very last day when he showed up to watch my boys H.S. soccer game, the support and love he has given to me, my family, and so many of us is immeasurable. I can picture his unforgettable smile when his nephew finally scored the only goal of the match. My son who scored that goal loved Karsten like a father. As the game neared its end, the heavy clouds gave way unexpectedly to a world painted masterfully by the low sun. Golden bellies of clouds reached down as Karsten remarked upon the beauty of the light. Karsten was both a master of light and the humble
witness of its beauty.
I deeply appreciate all of Karsten’s friends, film community, and relatives who are stepping forward to support the beautiful family Karsten cherished. With Rosanne, he created a family bound tightly by unconditional love, affection, and joy in sharing everyday life with each other.
No amount of money can ease the pain of their loss, but together we can help bridge the financial shortfall and extra expenses they are confronted with in the wake of Karsten’s death. Your contribution at any level will help relieve the financial concerns facing Rosanne (who works as a freelancer), Kira (a recent college grad), and Asha (a current undergraduate) as they begin to navigate their lives without Karsten.
Thank you very much for your generosity.
