Here at the Andover Bookstore, we believe that books are more than commodities. They are ideas, culture, free exchanges of speech, stories, and history. Books are our friends, and the independent bookstores that house them are central to thriving communities and democratic societies. The Andover Bookstore is the oldest of them all. For 214 years, people have browsed the shelves, gathered for events, debated and discerned the merits of ideas inside pages, shared stories upon stories, and passed down the legacy of the Andover Bookstore to each successive generation.

When hundreds of independent bookstores have succumbed to unprecedented challenges, a hostile book market, an increasingly digital world, and a dwindling commitment to the local, this bookstore has avoided a similar fate because of people like you. This is your bookstore. Your donations help us breathe easier on the back end--our budget expands (more books on shelves!), our debts are paid down a bit faster, our employees are fairly compensated for their (frankly, stellar) work. Your dollars are kept in our community. We all win.

What more can we say than thank you? So much more, but incredibly, words often fail, despite what we read in books.
