On Wednesday, November 6th, our friends Jessica Butterfield and Andreas Tompros lost their home, most of their working avocado farm and all of their possessions in Ventura County’s #MountainFire.

The fire sparked down the hill from them on Balcom Canyon in Somis, California, and within 20 minutes of seeing smoke they were evacuated. Wearing only t-shirts and flip flops, they packed their cats, dogs and goats(!) and drove them to safety leaving everything else behind.

Now, they need our help. Recovering from a house fire is a significant financial and emotional challenge. The $60,000 goal is an estimate of typical costs over six months, accounting for insurance coverage gaps and uninsured items including their orchard, bees, and farm machinery.

Your funds will go toward living expenses, clothing, personal care, prescription eyewear, food, shelter, pet care, gas, home supplies, and other fees & expenses associated with this tragedy for the next six months.

Jessica, a full-time tutor, lost all of her teaching supplies, textbooks, technologies, curriculum, etc. As a result, her ability to earn a living has come to a halt . Additionally, their commercial orchard "Ridgecrest Avocados" was more than 50% destroyed. They lost all farm equipment, quail, chickens, and many other critters and crops that were part of their livelihood.

Jessica and Andreas entertained extensively on their property. As you probably experienced at some point, they have a knack of making friends feel like family. We share their sadness and grieve what they worked so hard to build.
