Support Andree's Battle Against Cancer: A Journey of Healing

We write to you with heavy hearts and an urgent plea for our dear brother Andree.

Andree has been diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Adenocarcinoma and as days turned into weeks, Andree’s condition is deteriorating rapidly, and the once vibrant glow in his eyes is beginning to fade. Despite undergoing grueling chemotherapy treatments and battling relentless pain, Andree’s spirit has remained unbroken and hopeful. He faces each day with courage and dignity, determined to cherish every moment with his loved ones. But as medical bills pile up and expenses soar, our family has found ourselves facing an overwhelming financial burden. With each passing day and each chemotherapy treatment the weight of the financial strain is growing heavier, casting a shadow of uncertainty over Andree’s already tumultuous journey. His treatment involves a cycle of chemotherapy for 4-6 hours every 3 weeks, interval CT scans, repeat biopsies and a host of other medications used to treat the respiratory symptoms of his disease. Currently, Andree has undergone 8 cycles of chemotherapy on a specific combination of drugs prescribed by his Oncologist. The prescribed dose of the chemotherapeutic agents and clinical treatment cost over J$775,000 (US$5,000), per cycle. Initially, while on these drug regimens there was a glimmer of hopefulness driven by a positive response to the treatment which manifested as shrinkage of his tumors, but as time has progressed, his most recent CT scans shows that there has been a significant reversion of his cancer, possibly due to a mutation of the Adenocarcinoma, which now means he will require a new regimen of chemotherapy agents and oral medication concoctions. Based on his doctors’ prognosis, Andree will need to be on chemotherapy indefinitely and in addition to the chemotherapy, he will also need targeted immunotherapy. Further testing is currently being conducted for a specific mutation in the cancer cells of Andree’s tumors in order to see if they will respond positively to these newer, more targeted immunotherapy agents. This route is more effective than chemotherapy and has far less aversive side effects in most cases. Unfortunately, Immunotherapy is three times more expensive per dose than chemotherapy and ranges between J$2.0M to J$2.5M ($US13,000 to US16,000).

Desperate to ease some of the financial burden and give Andree a fighting chance, our family has decided to turn to the kindness and generosity of strangers. We decided to create a GoFundMe campaign to share Andree’s story with the world.
