Support AOJAH's Lifesaving Medical Mission in Jamaica

Please help us provide free, life changing medical care to the poorest of the poor in Jamaica!

Who is AOJAH (Alliance Of Jamaican and American Humanitarians)? We are a group of like-minded Jamaicans and Americans, both medical and non-medical volunteers, who have been providing free medical care to impoverished and underserved communities on the Island of Jamaica for 10+ years. Every year we bring 90-100 volunteers, from many different backgrounds, and with many different gifts and talents, to provide a multitude of services. We provide medical and surgical care to patients, as well as teach Jamaican physicians how to use the laparoscopic surgical equipment that we donate to Jamaican hospitals. Free surgical services include laparoscopic cholecystectomies (gallbladder removal), tumor removal, hysterectomies and fibroidectomies. The medical care we provide is unique because we travel to the same communities every year (Bensonton, Blackstonage, Faith's Pen, Lime Hall, Harmony Vale, Madras, Murray Mountain, Queenhythe, Walkerswood) and provide a full year supply of medication to hundreds of patients every year for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, high cholesterol and more. Most medical missions give at most a couple months of medication, which leaves patients very vulnerable for the rest of the year. But we make sure our patients are treated until we return the following year. We also treat numerous other acute conditions such as skin disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, infections, allergies, arthritis, asthma, scabies (body lice) and many more. We also have an amazing eye team made up of optometrists and ophthalmologists who perform between 25-30 free cataract surgeries every year and give a full year supply of glaucoma eye drops to hundreds of patients at risk of blindness due to glaucoma.

In addition to the medical arm of our organization, we are also dedicated to education. Our education team brings educational materials to local schools every year and every year we choose 2 underprivileged and deserving young students to whom we award a scholarship. The scholarship helps them to go on to pursue their high school education (high school in Jamaica is not paid for by the government). We continue to sponsor them through graduation and have now celebrated graduates who have gone on to the Caribbean School of Medicine as well as other college programs!

As you can imagine, serving all these needs for the impoverished in Jamaica comes at a significant expense. In order to continue our mission, we depend on the generosity of others. So, we are asking for you to make whatever contribution you can. Any amount can make a difference. Please help us make a real and true difference in the lives of those who have no other option. None of our volunteers get paid a penny ever; we even pay our own travel and hotel expenses. You can be confident that every dollar you donate goes toward the services we provide. Thank you in advance for your consideration and generosity.

Sincerely,
Alliance of Jamaican and American Humanitarians (AOJAH.org)
