Help April's Angels: Handicap Accessible Playground Repairs

ABOUT APRIL'S ANGELS

April's Angels is a unique and heartwarming story that centers around a local community effort in Fulton, Mississippi. The story began in 2011 when our friend,April Craig South, a beloved preschool teacher, suddenly passed away at the age of 35. April was known for her kindness, generosity, and deep love for children in the community.

After April's death, a group of friends, inspired by April's spirit of loving special needs children, came together to create "April's Angels" in her memory. The group’s mission was to benefit the area of special needs at Itawamba Attendance Center. The group also decided to give a yearly scholarship to a high school senior majoring in education in her memory. The idea was simple: to spread the love and generosity that April had shown to so many children during her life. The big goal was to build an all inclusive handicapped accessible playground at the local elementary school where April worked.

April's Angels began as a small, grassroots initiative, but it quickly grew in both size and impact. Volunteers in the community began donating gifts, time, and money, and the project expanded each year. Just a few years later, later,the dream of building that playground became a reality making the playground the very first ADA All Inclusive Playground in the state of Mississippi.

What makes April's Angels particularly special is how it embodies the spirit of community—neighbors helping neighbors, and friends honoring the legacy of someone who was known for her selflessness and caring nature.

April’s Angels has become more than just a charity. It is a symbol of hope, love, and the enduring power of one person's legacy to spark positive change in a community.

It's a beautiful reminder that even in the face of loss, something meaningful can be created to benefit others and keep someone's spirit alive.

OUR CURRENT NEED

At this time, we are desperately in need of many repairs to the playground. The ADA requires a special mulch that must be replaced twice a year. We currently have sail shades broken and torn, many pieces of equipment that need replacing, and the biggest with the solid surface repairs needed.

April's Angels operates under The CREATE Foundation as a special project.
