Archie and I received the news that he has mild hip dysplasia. Starting in February of this year, Archie favored his left hind leg. We went to our previous vet to get it examined, and they would just call it torn muscle tissue and send us home with pain meds. As winter passed and we got into the warmer months, Archie's limp would come and go. I decided it would be best to change vets since we weren't getting the answers we needed, and I had a feeling something wasn't quite right. Ingersoll Animal Hospital has an amazing sister clinic, Pawsitive Strides, where they focus on rehabilitation and physical therapy. We scheduled a consultation, and I immediately felt relief with how thoroughly Archie was examined and taken care of. The previous vet never suggested x-rays, and Pawsitive Strides did. After x-rays and receiving Archie's radiology report, it's been a shock. Archie turns two in January and is too young to have hip dysplasia. The vet at Pawsitive Strides connected us to a specialist at ISU Vet Med Hospital for further examination as they specialize in this surgery, TPLO. The cost for surgery ranges from $4,200 - $5,500. We have pet insurance but changed providers over the summer; therefore, Archie's illness is considered a pre-existing condition and surgery will not be covered.
Archie loves to play with his fellow canine friends. Everyone we encounter notices how Archie is social, happy, and friendly. Having this surgery would extend Archie's ability to continue doing the things he loves!
