My name is Ariel Seligman Delgado, and I’m a Costa Rican-American filmmaker currently studying at the University of Miami. My producer, Olivia Collis, and I are incredibly excited to share our short film, Just Girls, with you—a project that explores the complexities of identity, friendship, and the unspoken pressures of fitting in. But to bring this important story to life, we need your help!

The Story: Just Girls is a coming-of-age drama set in the confines of a private school bathroom, where the walls hold secrets and the interactions between a group of teenage girls reveal deep tensions of cultural assimilation and social hierarchy. The film follows Lucia, a young Hispanic girl, as she navigates the tricky dynamics of friendship, peer pressure, and the feeling of being an outsider in an environment dominated by privilege.

The story is told through moments that feel both intimate and universal—friendship, vulnerability, jealousy, and the desire to belong. It’s a glimpse into the ways young women shape their identities in an environment where appearances can mean everything.

Why This Story Matters: This is more than just a film about teenage girls. It’s about the nuanced experience of feeling out of place and struggling to find where you belong. Through Just Girls, we hope to shine a light on the pressures that come with being different, on the quiet resilience required to survive in spaces where you’re made to feel like you don’t belong.
