Arthur Holmes goes by many names, depending on how long you’ve known him or where you know him from. Family and old friends know him as Jamie, those of us who have met him later in life know him as Art, and many of you from the boating community know him as cocopelli.

Our friend Art is facing the most challenging battle of his life. In the summer of 2023, at just 44 years old, Art was diagnosed with cancer. By the summer of 2024, his fight became even harder when he was placed on dialysis due to kidney failure.

Art is someone who lights up every room he enters. He’s known for his love for boating, his incredible sense of humor, his passion for music, and his ability to make everyone around him feel welcome and valued. Whether he’s singing along to his favorite songs or cracking jokes over drinks with friends and family, Art’s happiness and joy are contagious.

But beyond the laughter and good times, Art is also the kind of friend who is always there when you need him—offering a helping hand or a listening ear without hesitation. Now, it’s our turn to show up for him.

Since December 5, Art has been hospitalized due to complications from his progressive cancer and kidney diseases. During this time, he lost his job and, with it, his health insurance. His family is working tirelessly to get his insurance reinstated, but the mounting medical bills and day-to-day expenses have become overwhelming, adding stress to an already stressful situation.

We are asking our community—friends, family, and anyone who has been touched by Art’s life—to come together and support him during this incredibly difficult time. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will go directly toward covering his expenses and helping his family navigate this challenging journey.

Art has always been there for us, bringing joy and laughter into our lives. Let’s rally together to show him the same love and support he has so freely given to others.
