My name is Windy Wagoner my father Arthur Wagoner was 77 years old 16 days away from turning 78 he passed away October 14, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington WV. He originally was admitted in the hospital in Morehead KY on August 9, 2024 because he was found unresponsive and was placed on the vent for having pneumonia & being septic. He had COPD so having all of that on top of his situation made it that much worse for him to breath he has struggled with COPD for years and even knowing the struggle he still wanted to live. We were told he would not survive off of the vent but he fought so hard & proved them wrong. He got off the vent and put on bi-pap then down to high flow oxygen. So fast forward to a month being in the hospital fighting to get to come home they said his insurance was coming to a end and they said he wasn’t improving and being able to be weaned off of the high flow oxygen so they insisted to move him to Cornerstone Huntington WV because they were supposed to specialize in respiratory and get him weaned off of high flow. He was seeming to get better then take a fall back and this continued for several weeks Then it came to them saying there was nothing else they could do for him. He was sure put thru the ringers there they pulled a IV out of his arm & he bled so much and then his arm started swelling and getting bruised to the point it was turning black and it was so painful for him he couldn’t even lift it he had to have a blood transfusion. So then he was moved to the actual St Mary’s hospital section The spot drained for weeks because he was so unstable breathing wise that he couldn’t be put under for surgery. He was there for several weeks & a couple weeks ago he was doing so well that he was on 3 1/2 liters of oxygen and they were even talking about sending him home by the weekend. But October 2nd he took a turn for the worst and had to be put back on bi-pap and then to A vap mode which is the last mode before having to be re-intubated. He was placed on a GI feeding tube October 9th because he started aspirating. He got to where he was on the mask all the time and then got to the point his respirations were 45 breaths a minute even on 100% on the mask. They done scans and it came back that he had got the pneumonia back really bad and had blood clots in his lungs and had a foreign object shutting off the right lower lobe of his lung they wasn’t sure what it was but said looked to be a pea or piece of corn that he choked on. By Saturday October 12th he was re-intubated & having trouble with his blood pressure dropping. Then be Monday they were calling everyone in because he wasn’t gonna make it thru the night and he didn’t he coded twice & they never got him back the 2nd time. He didn’t have life insurance and his funeral is gonna cost alittle over $8,500. He wasn’t able to work and was on Social Security. He is the best person that you’d ever meet in your life so humble & kind his heart was as big as Texas he’d give you the shirt off his back if you needed it & always made sure everyone had what they needed and didn’t wanna see anyone do without. I’m so very thankful for the time I got with my Dad he has sure struggled for a long time. It puts me at somewhat of ease because I know he isn’t suffering anymore & he is reunited with my Mom his wife of 40 years & my baby boy that passed away at 3 months old. I really hate asking for help but if anyone can spare a couple dollars that would help out more than you know & it would be greatly appreciated. All funds will go to funeral expenses.
