Support Artist Rory Golden Keeping Housed Safely

 

Hello, my name is Rory Golden and I am raising emergency funds to keep a roof over my head over today through the coming months. I am a professional visual artist doing work across media including books and paper, print, painting, performance art and video, with a variety of community-driven projects:  a longstanding queer activist anti-racist artist.   I am asking you to help me avoid losing my roof and my work. 

Our fundraising goal of $5000 will support:

My  immediate housing
Storage of my archive of art and writing
Housing and bus travel over the coming 7 months (before and after residencies at Yaddo and Open Air (MT) dates TBD.

My biggest need is my immedate weekly rent.
My permanent address is in NYC through the Coalition for the Homeless, but, the place where I've been holed up during the pandemic is a weekly cash rooming house that is affordable, increasingly unstable and not just because I struggle to pay the weekly rent, and sometimes dangerous if you will. They literally dump people out over night put your stuff out. My rent is due today. I'm at $0.

I've been granted two residencies that have been covid delayed two years, that are happening this year  (dates tbd)

Storage for my archive of writing and art, to secure it as quickly as possible so that I can be flexible regarding housing (and storing my archive of writing and art from the past three-four years).

I  have suffered through PTSD symptoms for the past 10 months. 

As a background for those who don't know my work, the past year was made challenging by PTSD sumptons that emerged while experiencing and writing about my work- social justice anti racist, and radical queer  - being the object of bias and prejudice and bigotry in the arts. 

And, having read enough biographies of artists and writers who lose their archives under fire (often, as I would argue in my case) from various political and socio-political forces. Welcome to my life! :) 

I write every day in notebooks (morning pages if you will) and have boxes of this writing, fodder for a a few books. I just finished a first draft of a novel. I'm planning video projects that have morphed from performance art.

Looking for Housing: Dog or House Sitting Gigs (or some sort of housing in between residencies, whose dates are TBD).

 

I'm doing the things, writing grants, researching opportunities, jobs, and in the gig economy. After I get my archive stored, I can go anywhere on a bus in between art programs. .

I'm an experienced dog sitter and house sitter, with references: networking. Any time between now and late summer.

In Duty Free Ranger projects,  performative public interventions are  "undoing colonialism on a vibrational level".  I walked backwards in a project using a spoon as a rear view mirror in 2014. Now I am praying to walk forwards towards a better year! I cannot do it alone. I am asking you to vibrate with me.
