Support Ashley Fajardo's Journey with HD!

We are Christina and Carolyn Lee, and we are raising money to help support our amazing cousin, Ashley Fajardo, who is living with Huntington's Disease. For those unfamiliar with it, Huntington's is a rare, inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It dramatically impacts a person's functional abilities and usually results in movement and cognitive disorders. Medications are essential in managing the symptoms of the disease, but there are no cures as of yet and no way to prevent the eventual physical and mental decline that it causes.

ABOUT ASHLEY

Ashley is about to turn 40 years old and has lived with the reality of Huntington's her whole life because her mother also had it. She has always been one to face life's challenges head-on, so when she turned 18, she took the genetic test to determine if she would also inherit Huntington's. Upon learning that she would one day become symptomatic, she chose to accept her reality with a positive attitude and live life to the absolute fullest. We are so proud to say that she has approached life with Huntington's with the fiercest determination never to waste a minute and to do everything she can to treat her symptoms. She has become a leader with the Huntington's Foundation of America and founded the Huntington's Walk in Sacramento, traveled the world, mentored youth through Young Life ministries, worked with special needs students in her local school, continued riding horses, and even became a CrossFit badass! She has also participated in clinical trials to support Huntington's research. She is the most open, honest, caring, and determined person we have ever known, and we are so proud of her. WHY WE ARE RAISING FUNDS

Ashley has been very proactive in receiving medical support for her disease through UC Davis and Kaiser. She is doing everything she can to maintain her quality of life, including going to speech therapy, physical therapy, and a nutritionist. She would also like to see a specialized neurologist to help augment and complement her current program and medications that her Huntington's specialists have initiated. This treatment path aims to help maintain mobility and quality of life. Unfortunately, Ashley's insurance will not cover this neurologist's services, and the initial intake alone is $1,800. We aim to raise $6,000 to help get Ashley this additional treatment. Please consider donating whatever you can to support Ashley's journey.
