Our daughter, Ashlyn, has had four life-altering events this year. First, she became engaged to a wonderful young man.
To give you an idea, he planned a trip to Disney World in March and suggested they stop to see her grandparents. He proposed to her while there so they could be a part of the occasion. They began looking to buy a home and discussing future plans together as soon as they got home. Second, she graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor's Degree in Science and Education. This led to her third event, starting her second year of teaching first grade. All of this occurred in just a few months, and she was on top of the world with excitement and dreams!
Unfortunately, I said there were four life-altering events this year. The fourth was when she went to the hospital for swollen glands in her neck. Tests revealed cancer on her lymph nodes.
A P.E.T. scan revealed numerous locations of Hodgkin's Lymphoma throughout her neck, and shoulders. Her oncologist informed her that the cancer spread to her lungs so they were going to classify her as having Stage 4 cancer and begin intensive chemotherapy treatment.
It goes without saying that having to watch your child go through all of these events is both incredibly exciting and equally devastating. Through it all, though, Ashlyn has remained stoic and in good spirits. Realizing the treatment is going to be devastating to her body, she's determined to complete the treatments and survive! The courage we see in our little girl is truly inspiring! The hope for a beautiful future remains alive because my beautiful daughter refuses to back down.
Which leads us to why I'm posting here: The treatments are costly and Ashlyn has already been hospitalized from surgery and complications. We ask you to pray for her health and, if possible, donate to her fight against Hodgkin's Lymphoma. All donations will go towards her medical expenses and also help pay monthly bills as she will miss a lot of work.
i wanted to share what Ashlyn has posted as this is her story!
August. A month that will forever mark a turning point in my life. For days, I wrestled with whether to share this, but I know that my story has the power to help others. On August 8, 2024, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma—cancer. August 26,2024, I was diagnosed Stage 4. The word alone is enough to shake anyone to their core, and at 24, it felt surreal. But cancer will never define who I am. I choose to live, to fight, and to advocate for myself and others.
Here’s my story. It started in May 2024 with discomfort in my shoulder and neck. I brushed it off, thinking I had just slept wrong. A knot appeared, not painful but definitely discomforting, yet I continued to ignore it. The swelling would come and go, but I still didn’t listen to my body’s signals that something was wrong. By July, the pain had intensified. My neck, near my jaw, was swollen, and it spread throughout my shoulders. On top of dealing with extreme fatigue, rashes, and night sweats. Finally, I went to the doctor to figure out what was going on.
A week later, after tests and blood work, the results showed that my lymph nodes were significantly swollen. A specialist conducted further tests, and the results were concerning for lymphoma. On Tuesday, August 6, I had a biopsy, and by Thursday, I received the diagnosis. How was I supposed to feel? At 24, recently engaged, with my career just taking off, my world suddenly flipped upside down. But fear has no place in my heart, because I know my God is with me every step of the way.
My message to you is this: listen to your body. Be aware of the signs. See your doctor.
