Hi, friends and family.
Thank you for taking time out to read this.
I have never heard a more gutteral, horrifying scream than I did August 14th of this year. Atticus and I were cooking dinner when he accidentally hit the handle of a boiling pot of rice, causing the water to fly out and pour down his face to his hip. We put ice and cold water in it immediately, but it was so bad we needed to go to the hospital.
I rushed him to Cedar Park ER where they immediately gave him an IV and bandages all over. Nurse Eric was amazing there, but he and the doctors decided as the burns worsened, he needed to be transported by ambulance to University Children's Trauma and Burn Unit in San Antonio.
Thank God for the medical staff there!
Atticus was put under anesthesia and the first debriment (removal/ cutting away of skin) was done. Then, he was given topical medication and an IV with other medications and fluids. He was then taken to a room where he was treated every couple of hours and monitored. They sent in physical therapists and occupational therapists who showed us how to utilize certain movements to keep the skin elastic. They sent folks in just to cheer him up! They changed bandages and managed his pain, which was excruciating and constant.
Atticus has since been put under to have multiple procedures done and on his was to a full recovery. We will continue going to San Antonio for his treatment until he is fully recovered.
This has been the most painful thing he's ever experienced and more than some adults could handle. He was worried he would look like that forever and that the pain and intolerable itching wouldn't end. It was absolutely terrifying for him and as a mom, indescribable. Ultimately, he handled it like a true champ and I'm so proud!
I am humbly coming to you to ask for help with some of the (out of network) medical bills. We're so grateful for the care he received, but as you know, the expense is a lot for just about anyone. Please know that your prayers, love and support are such a blessing. We thank you for any contribution or for sharing the link and we are here for you as well.
Love,
