Support Austin’s Fight Against Cancer

Hello Everyone!

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, my sister Stacey was playing with her son, Austin, and noticed swelling behind his jaw and ear. Concerned, her husband, Ian, and her took him to urgent care believing an ear infection was the cause. They were then told to head to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where they were admitted so Austin could undergo CT scans, blood work and observation.

Imaging performed at that time revealed what the team believed to be either a mass or abscess. Unfortunately, a MRI has confirmed it to be any parents’ worst nightmare: Cancer.

We are still in the preliminary stages of receiving a diagnosis, however, the oncology team at Children’s believes this type of cancer to be Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), which is a type of cancer/cancer-like disease that occurs when the body makes too many white bloods cells to fight infections. This type of disease is mostly diagnosed in children between the ages of 1 and 3 years.

Because of the fight Austin and his army have in front of him, I am asking on behalf of my sister, brother-in-law and family for any assistance in this heartbreaking time. At just 7 months old, Austin is expected to go through numerous rounds of chemotherapy for at least a year. Any donations would be to help subsidize medical treatment, inpatient stays, and additional costs.
