We are reaching out to you with a heartfelt request for support. Austin, just 28 years old has been facing an incredibly challenging battle with chronic heart failure and chronic kidney failure since May 24, 2023. This diagnosis has profoundly affected his life, but his journey has also been marked by incredible acts of love and support from his cousin Jalen.
On May 24, 2023, Austin was unexpectedly admitted to the hospital and spent a week there fighting for his life. After being released, he had to wear a life vest to monitor his heart, leading to the implantation of a defibrillator. When the first defibrillator failed, Austin had to undergo an emergency procedure and a more complex surgery by a specialist. In addition to his heart issues, Austin had a PD catheter inserted and began at-home dialysis, enduring 8-hour sessions every night for five months. The medical team also performed a heart catheterization to ensure his heart could withstand the necessary surgeries.
During this time, one of Austin's female cousins stepped forward, willing to donate her kidney. However, due to unforeseen medical reasons, she was unable to proceed. That’s when Jalen, Austin’s 30-year-old cousin, selflessly volunteered to donate his kidney. Jalen's incredible generosity didn’t begin here; in 2021, he had also donated a liver to their cousin TJ. Jalen’s willingness to step in and help not once, but twice, speaks volumes about his character and the strength of their family bond.
Austin’s battle has been intense, draining and life changing He’s never smoked, drank, or vaped, but unknowingly lived with high blood pressure for years, contributing to his current condition. Despite these hardships, Austin has shown incredible strength and courage, inspiring all who know him. He's never once complained or felt bad for himself .
The financial impact of this journey has been significant. Austin has been unable to work due to his condition and the extensive treatments. Jalen, too, has faced financial challenges, as he had to miss work to undergo the donation process and recovery. The medical bills, ongoing treatments, and living expenses have become overwhelming for both of them.
We are asking for your support to help cover these costs and provide some relief during this difficult time. Your generous donations will help Austin and Jalen focus on their recovery without the added stress of financial burdens. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to giving Austin a chance at a healthier life and supporting Jalen for his incredible act of love.
