Support Autistic Adults' VW Beetle Project
Donation protected
In the heart of our community lies a group of extraordinary individuals who are often overlooked—adults with autism and learning challenges. Despite facing numerous obstacles, they possess remarkable talents and an unyielding spirit. Today, we invite you to join us on a unique journey as these individuals come together to restore a vintage Volkswagen Beetle. This project is more than just a car restoration; it’s a story of empowerment, skill-building, and community.
Meet Adam, Manuel, Silas, Sean P., Keegan and Sean R—six incredible adults who, despite their diverse challenges, share a passion for creativity and hands-on work. They are part of a local organization, StarPointe Consulting, dedicated to supporting adults with autism and learning disabilities, helping them to develop life skills and foster independence. When a supportive family donated a rusted, well-loved but forgotten 1968 VW Beetle, we saw an opportunity for transformation—not just of the car, but of the lives of those who would restore it.
The Dream: The vintage VW Beetle, once a symbol of freedom and adventure, will be restored to its former glory by the hands of those who understand the value of perseverance and dedication. Through this project, this group of learners will learn valuable skills in mechanics, teamwork, and problem-solving. More importantly, they will gain confidence and a sense of accomplishment that will drive their personal growth and community integration.
Our restoration journey is divided into several phases:
1. Discovery and Learning: With guidance from professional mentors and volunteers, our team will start by understanding the basics of car restoration. This includes identifying parts, understanding the car’s mechanics, and planning the restoration process.
2. Hands On: The team will engage in hands-on activities such as dismantling the car, cleaning parts, repairing and replacing components, and eventually, painting and detailing the car. Each step is designed to teach patience, precision, and teamwork.
3. Community: As the restoration progresses, we will share our journey through social media, local news, and community events. This will not only raise awareness about the capabilities of autistic and learning-challenged adults but also foster community support and inclusivity.
4. Celebration: Upon completion, the fully restored VW Beetle will be showcased in a community event where our team’s hard work and dedication will be celebrated. The car will then be auctioned off, with proceeds going back into our program to support more projects like this.
This project is about more than restoring a car; it’s about restoring hope and confidence in individuals who often feel marginalized. By contributing to our GoFundMe campaign, you are helping to provide the necessary tools, materials, and professional guidance to make this dream a reality. Your support will empower these young adults to develop skills that will last a lifetime and show the world that with the right support, everyone can achieve greatness.
We invite you to be a part of this transformative journey. Your donation, no matter how small, will make a significant impact. Together, we can restore a piece of automotive history and, more importantly, help these amazing individuals restore their confidence and pride.
Thank you for believing in the power of transformation and inclusion.
