Support Avari’s Fight Against Cancer

Hi, I’m Kristin, a close friend of the entire Burns family. After much prayer among the Burns family and local supporters, we wanted to open this Go Fund Me to help with Avari’s medical expenses as she fights against the cancer that has invaded her body.

A little back story: Avari noticed a lump in her upper right thigh that was causing her pain. It grew quite fast, and pressure on it would aggravate it. After tests and scans they saw that it was a fluid-filled cyst that was growing and splitting her muscles at the top of her thigh. A biopsy confirmed the worst news: synovial sarcoma a rare cancer found in young adults.

Her oncologist feels positive that it was caught so quickly! But, that also means a lot of moving parts need to happen rather quickly. Avari will need strong chemo followed by radiation to the trouble area. The radiation needs to scar the outside of the cyst so the cancerous fluid on the inside doesn’t spill when removing it causing additional problems.

Because the cyst is so close to Avari’s ovaries, there was a concern it would affect having babies later in life. The Burns worked with a fertility doctor to harvest eggs for future babies this week! And a huge prayer was answered with the Moncrief Cancer Institute covering these procedures at 100%! Hallelujah!

Avari starts chemo on Monday, 12/18. Their lives will change immensely over the next few weeks. I ask that you keep them in prayer, sign up on their meal train, buy a t-shirt and bracelet (or 5!), and give everything you can in donations. Those donations will go straight to Avari and family to support them with medical and travel expenses.
