Support Baby Childers' Heart Journey

Hi everyone! We are reaching out with humble hearts as we navigate an unexpected journey for our unborn baby boy's health.

At our 24-week fetal echocardiogram, we discovered that our precious baby boy may have something wrong with his heart. (As many of you know this is our rainbow baby, we suffered a miscarriage in February that was devastating.)

After the findings of our 24 week echo we were referred to Children’s Mercy Cardiology where they performed an extensive fetal echocardiogram, and the pediatric cardiologist determined that baby boy has severe aortic valve stenosis, causing a dilated ascending aorta.

The doctors have shared that this condition may lead to hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which could require multiple surgeries in the first days of our baby's life.

I am going to be closely monitored by my OB and MFM team here in Wichita as well as the pediatric cardiologists team at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City.

We are overwhelmed hearing about the possible interventions our baby may need, we are looking at needing an in utero procedure done in Boston, an aortic valve procedure right after birth, as well as the potential need for other intensive heart surgeries down the road.

While this has been difficult to process, we know and trust that God is in control. We believe that He has a purpose for our baby and will guide us through every step of the way.

Yet, we face a significant financial burden as we will need to travel often to Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Hospital Fetal Health Center for specialized care and to Boston Children's Hospital for further interventions.

We will be headed to CMH Fetal Health Center next week for another fetal echo and growth scan. We are also waiting to hear back from Boston on a date for the In utero procedure.

As many of you know, Noah is the only one currently working right now as I have been on bed rest for the majority of our pregnancy. With him possibly needing to take more time off than we anticipated, we will need help. The costs of travel, medical care, and potential surgeries are more than we can manage alone.

We are reaching out for support, both financially and in prayer, to help us stay focused on preparing for our baby’s arrival and the best possible care for him.

Kamilah and Mason are ecstatic for their baby brother’s arrival. They of course don’t quite understand what is going on but they know that God is protecting their little baby brother!
