Support Baby Jade's Journey to Health

My name is Jeanne Sykes. Ashley is my granddaughter. She has four beautiful boys and is pregnant with a baby girl. She has ALWAYS wanted a little girl to add to her family. She is halfway through her pregnancy and has been told terrible news. Baby Jade has Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida with hydrocephalus. Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida is a birth defect where the spinal cord and surrounding tissues fail to close completely during fetal development. Hydrocephalus is fluid on the brain. She has seen specialists at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. There are several ways to repair this defect. One is to perform surgery in utero and the other is to repair the defect after Baby Jade is born. To repair the defect in utero, Ashley would have to be sedated for around 6-8 hours and spend several months in the hospital. This option would take her away from her four boys for an extended period of time. This is not feasible for her family. The second option is to have the repair done once Baby Jade is born. Ashley would have to make numerous trips to and from Chicago during her pregnancy and after Baby Jade is born, she would require many trips to Lurie's. This alone will put a financial strain on the family, let alone all the work Ashley would be missing. I am asking for your help to make this family complete. Prayers for Ashley, Baby Jade, and the rest of the family would be welcomed.
