Support baker Cay Scheuer after Hurricane Helene

My name is Keia Mastrianni and I am the owner/baker of Milk Glass Pie, a farm-based micro-bakery located in the foothills of Western North Carolina. Our bakery works with a tiny team of two to produce seasonal pastries and pies for the farmers market, pop-ups and culinary events on the farm where the bakery is based. We are a small, but mighty team.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, which devastated our mountain communities to the west, Cay Scheuer, one of our bakers was indefinitely displaced from her home with no timeline on returning. There is no running water in Asheville where she lives, which makes living and working a challenge. After the storm, Cay left her home and drove to safety in Florida. In that time, she experienced another hurricane when Milton struck the gulf coast where her family lives. She has now been out of work for two weeks and lost her other income-producing job.

While there are many people in dire need in Western North Carolina, including many small businesses and industry workers like Cay, it is my hope that we can band the Milk Glass Pie community together to help our employee during this incredibly difficult and uncertain time. The money raised will help support this displaced baker and contribute to her welfare and mounting bills while she awaits return to normal life.

This is just one of many stories in the aftermath of this historic storm and my hope is that we can make small material difference to help one of our valued employees weather this time.
