Safe shelter and support for Barbara.
Donation protected
I am reaching out for support for my cousin, Barbara McCauley. Barbara is battling a very scary cancer diagnosis. She is 67 and until recently worked as a cashier (limited to part time due to back issues from a prior car accident). Even with this and a small Social Security check she was still living “paycheck to paycheck”. She lost that job due to absences. She only learned months later , the source of her illness, was an advanced stage of Ovarian cancer. Now, in the midst of her battle against this aggressive disease, Barbara is confronted with another hurdle - the imminent sale of her rented basement room , leaving her with just 30-60 days to find a new place to live. Due to a number of life events, she has no savings to fall back on. She does hope to work again, after chemo is over.
While her family has helped, as much as they can, they are facing their own challenges. Her closest family member, resides in Florida, and may be a long term solution, but in the interim she is facing this challenging journey largely alone. She must stay in Pennsylvania for now to adhere to her Medicaid plan and continue treatment with her oncologist, as delays could be critical. The surgery showed prior chemo had been effective, she is awaiting the pathology report but knows her treatment will be a min of 4 more months of Chemo.
Adding to the weight of her situation - Barbara suffers from severe anxiety, which makes every decision and uncertainty even more overwhelming. She has had to make heartbreaking decisions, such as rehoming her cats, to make it easier to find her next living situation and to have someone to take care of them properly. To help Barbara navigate through these tough times, we've set an initial fundraising goal of $1,800 This amount will assist with unpaid medical, subsidizing rent/security for the next 3 months. Your contribution, regardless of its size, will make a significant difference in Barbara's life. In addition to paying bills it will also provide her with the emotional strength she needs to continue her fight against cancer. Thank you for considering supporting Barbara through this.
