Support Battle Lake Family After Fire

My name is Jean Nowak and I'm a neighbor of the Swarts/Rogers family in Battle Lake: Jon, Nancy, and children living at home, Dawson & Colton, and their three dogs. On Oct. 13th, Dawson smelled smoke & alerted everyone. They saw the flames in the attached porch in the front of their house. The three dogs were in there. Thankfully, Nancy & the kids got out a window, and the dogs were all rescued. Jon ran through the fire & smoke but could not find the door handle right away. He then got the hose, which he sprayed until help arrived from Fire Departments from here & surrounding communities and put this out & made sure it did not spread.

Jon has been coming to Battle Lake since he was young with his parents & then has lived in Battle Lake since 1978. He suffered smoke inhalation & was transferred to the hospital, where he was released the next day. My dear neighbors have had some hard times recently, with Jon having medical issues and spending over a month down in the city at the U of M Medical Center, while Nancy, a CNA who works at a local hospital, is challenged by her muscular sclerosis. The fire damage is not covered by insurance, so the family could sure use your help towards rebuilding.

There was extensive damage done & this Battle Lake family needs your help with things such as replacing the sliding glass door, the front door, new insulation, and sheetrock. They also have a bill from this and are also waiting on Service Master's estimate. I'm praying that as friends & a caring community, we can help them out with money donations, material, or perhaps people who can help with the labor toward rebuilding the damage from this fire.
