Help Support a Documentary Celebrating the Bear Community
Donation protected
A sincere thanks for your interest in supporting Bears—an independent documentary series celebrating the bear community. We couldn't do this without you.
Our team, which includes an Emmy-winning casting producer and two-time Emmy-nominated producer, has produced various shows across HBO, Netflix, Hulu, etc. A UTA agent is championing Bears in this early phase to help secure financing for the full series. The editor of John Wick 4, Ghostbuster, and Saturday Night is editing the pilot presentation.
We're fundraising specifically to cover production costs for this initial phase of Bears—namely, our 5-day shoot in Palm Springs that took place from 2/20/25 - 2/24/25 and the subsequent post-production costs—editing, color grading, sound mixing, etc. Excluding our producers, director, casting producer, and director of photography (who are all donating time and certain equipment), production costs include:
- 2 assistant cameras
- 1 gaffer/grip
- 2 production sound mixers
- 1 production assistant
- additional equipment rentals
- hard drives
- meals
- accommodations
- fuel
- 1 editor
- 1 colorist
- 1 sound designer
- 1 composer
We're thrilled with the project's momentum, and we're humbly asking the bear community to help support our crew this early phase, until we're able to hopefully secure proper financing for the full show.
On a personal note, bears is a love letter. It’s also an encouragement to live joyfully and authentically.
For years, I kept secret both my sexuality and my type. Eventually, I came out—twice. As a gay man, I disappointed my parents. As a bear chaser, I confused my friends. But you like what you like, and you love who you love.
Fortunately, what I found on the other side of my own guilt and shame was joy—at first, beautiful bears returning my interest; then, shared stories; examples of healthy masculinity; genuine support; camaraderie; and feelings of liberation in my body. The community helped me uncover a clearer sense of self and experience deeper, truer love. Two years ago, I met the man of my dreams—a 59-year old “bear.” I cherish that my family and friends finally “get it.”
This documentary series will be a window for some, and a door for others. Big bear hugs.
Thanks for donating and/or sharing this project with friends in the community.
